Mavina kayi (Mango) appehuli/Neergojju

Mavina Kayi Appehuli or roughly Spciy Mango Curry, is one of the most prominent dishes amonng havyakas. These Mangos are very peculiar in the sense that they have a unique taste and flavor and i don't think they are that widely available. They are sweet, sour, jute-ish(fibrous) yet jucy. The dish just exploits the sweet and sour content of the mango's exceptionally well by combining the spice from yet again peculiar green chillies and other indian herbs. Goes well with white rice. Because the main ingredients seemed bit rare, i have provided the picture for those as well. hope it helps and you like the recipe and the dish:-)

My co-sister is havyaka brahmin & I have learnt a whole lot of Havyaka recipes from her. Appehuli is one of my favorite Havyaka food. basari iddaga adestu sala madi thindiddeno devarige gottu ;)
lovely pictures & great recipe.

As far I remember, after boiling & extracting the juice from the appehuli kayi, they discard the seed. I see, you have kept the seeds with appehuli. That is a nice twist..

I was thinking... wow, the mangoes are pretty fibrous... then I see you mentioned about that in the post in itself. Does it pose a problem when eating or maybe cooking it kinda mellows it down.
Nice vibrant picture.
